Comments Off on EQ3 City Guide; Toronto

Next up on our list of amazing cities is Toronto, Ontario, home to two of our retail locations, both located in the heart of the GTA.

Best Pizza: Terroni

With plenty of locations to choose from, Terroni has perfected authentic Italian pizza. On any one of our visits to Toronto, a stop at this classic eatery is a must. Plus, the Queen Street West location has the most ideal back patio that easily garners our number two best patio spot.

Best Date Spot: Mr. Flamingo

New(ish) to the Dundas West area, Mr. Flamingo is tucked away from the street, situated in a very vibrant, yet cozy resto-bar. The ambience and the menu will definitely impress your date (especially the burrata), and you can conveniently go downstairs to Bambi’s (which is under the same ownership of Mikey Apples) to continue your date!

Best Outdoor Market: Wychwood Barns Farmers’ Market

Easily do all of your grocery shopping in this one-stop shop filled with local farmers, bakers, fresh produce, jams, honey and fresh flowers.

Via She does the City

Best running route:  High Park

More of a park than a running route, High Park’s beautifully landscaped gardens and greenery does contain unpaved pathways making it the perfect spot for running, while experiencing Toronto at its best.

Best coffee shop: Sam James

With five coffee bars now open in the best parts of Toronto, Sam James keeps to the basics with simple store designs and the most amazing coffee.

Best Brunch: Saving Grace

Serving everything from sweet and savory staples, along with seasonally inspired specials, the (very) long Saturday and Sunday line is worth every minute.

Best Architectural Building:  Bar Raval

As one the newest, most talked about restaurants in Toronto, Bar Raval quite literally bars none. Its recent list of acknowledgments includes The Design Exchange Emerging Designer Award, Architect Magazine’s R+D award, and The Restaurant & Bar Design Award. Needless to say, its oiled mahogany millwork makes it the most beautiful bar in Toronto.

Best music venue: Massey Hall

One of Toronto’s oldest music venues, Massey Hall has hosted everyone from Aretha Franklin to Justin Bieber. The amazing acoustics make even the furthest seats in the highest balcony feel as if they’re right on stage.

Best cocktail bar: The Black Hoof cocktail bar

With ‘30s and ‘40s jazz music always on, the relaxed speakeasy vibe, and vintage-made cocktails, Black Hoof Cocktail bar is the best place for a manhattan…or two.

Best Patio: Drake hotel

A Toronto staple, the Drake Hotel Queen Street patio offers the best people-watching, as you never know who you will spot checking in or out of the hotel!

Comments Off on Boobyball

This year, EQ3 was invited to join in supporting one of the most coveted and high profile fundraising events, Boobyball. Boobyball was launched in 2002 by a group of dedicated young women in support of their friend Sarah O’Regan, who at just 23 years old was diagnosed with aggressive, advanced breast cancer. This event has succeeded in bringing breast health awareness to the forefront and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it!

In preparation for the event, we decided to pull some of our classic pieces in Boobyball pink!

We hope to see everyone on November 7 at The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba for Planet Boobyball.

CATS (& other musings)

Pets and babies have been used since the inception of print media as vehicles to soften images and render individuals more relatable. Daisy Woodward who writes one of my favorite monthly online columns The Pets (profiling famous people and their equally famous pets ) for Another magazine  explains this phenomena as such: “Add a child or animal into a shot and the reaction will transform from ‘so-what’ to swoon”.

In our celebrity drenched culture we are constantly bombarded with photos aiming to achieve that aforementioned swoon factor.  Although babies dominated the style sections in the mid 2000’s, lest we forget the days of Suri Cruise, now we see more and more pet-centric images.  Sure we have the North West and Aila Wang’s of the world but people are just as eager to spend hours lamenting over the adorable kitten that was just posted on kittens of Instagram regardless of her lack of sartorial contribution.

In fact, brands are popping up whose entire platform is devoted to showcasing cuteness.  The aforementioned catsofinstagram and their kitten/puppy/dog counterparts make it to the popular page on a daily basis and have developed a variety of social media platforms allowing fans to broadcast their admiration. Many other companies, such as popular NY/LA retailer Creatures of Comfort are taking advantage of the inherent likeability of say, a kitten in a pocket, while simultaneously boosting their exposure by splicing product plugs with sweet or hilarious portrayals of animals. In what may be the most meta approach of them all the publication “Cat People” showcases humans alongside of cats – individuals appear as a requisite supplement to the four legged creatures that are the undisputed stars of the publication.

Being in a business where my job requires me to stay relevant I spend a lot of time on the internet and trolling Instagram, where I often fall prey to vortex of cuteness. I revel in the opportunity to break up my time spent looking at beautiful images of interiors and furniture with something cute and cuddly. In an effort to pay it forward – I present a roundup of some of the cutest images submitted to me featuring cute and cuddly animals with poses ranging from innocent to seductive all with pieces of EQ3 furniture.

#EQ3Spotted: Modern Bungalow in Décormag

Feb 19, 2014

Comments Off on #EQ3Spotted: Modern Bungalow in Décormag

We were thrilled when these photos from the latest issue of Décormag arrived in our inbox last week. The article “Un bungalow pas comme les autres,” which can be loosely translated as “a bungalow like no other,” features the beautiful interior renovation of a fifties yellow-brick bungalow in Saint-Lambert, Québec.

Homeowner Louis Lachapelle and his wife Amelia “have a weakness for this kind of architecture,”¹ and they’ve transformed the existing architecture into a light-filled, modern home that’s perfect for their young family. We love how Louis and Amelia incorporated iconic pieces from the EQ3+ product line, such as the EQ3+ Herman Miller Nelson Platform Bench, in their open-concept kitchen/dining area. They look right at home with the couple’s mid-century modern aesthetic.
