Blogger’s Style: Rosa from Flutter Flutter

Oct 15, 2013

It’s been exciting to team up with Rosa Pearson – EQ3’s Blogger of the Month – over the last few weeks. Rosa lives in a suburb of Vancouver with her husband and two children, where she runs her own graphic design business and Etsy shop, Flutter Flutter. She also authors a design and lifestyle blog by the same name that covers creative topics, such as home renovations, interior design, decor, and DIYs. Rosa’s whimsical designs and modern-classic taste are impossible not to fall for, as is evident from the great press she’s received (features include The Globe & Mail, ABC’s Live Well Network, Design*Sponge and Poppytalk) in just a few short years.

The Conick Pendant is a favourite of Rosa’s from the EQ3 accessory product line, which she talked about here on the EQ3 Facebook Page. Today, Rosa’s showing us how she used this light fixture to complement the design of her family’s dining room.

“I have been searching for just the right light fixture for above our kitchen table since we moved in six years ago! I love clean lines, and am a huge fan of simplicity, so as soon as I saw the Conick Pendant it had me hooked.

Our kitchen is grand central station, and always has something yummy cooking up in it. We love to hang out as a family and enjoy eating dinner together in this space. The soft, diffused light that this pendant throws has made such a difference in how long we stay at the table after the food has disappeared! It has created a more relaxed atmosphere, which is ideal considering the other side of the room is our family/play room which seems to be in a constant state of disarray, thanks to our two boys.

Simplicity is even better when paired with quality, so little things like the diffuser being made of glass and not plastic made an impression on me. And being easy to install made the handyman of the house happy too. Win win!”

Blogger’s Style: Christine from Bijou and Boheme

Sep 24, 2013

We’ve been thrilled to have Christine Dovey as the EQ3 Blogger of the Month. An artist by trade, Christine writes about her affinity for glamour and all things pretty over at Bijou and Boheme, her widely read, GTA based design and lifestyle blog. Christine is also a contributing columnist in Style at Home Magazine and a contributing blogger over at Styleathome.com, where she regularly informs readers of the latest online trends in home decor and design.

Earlier this month, on the EQ3 Facebook Page, Christine told us what she loved about the EQ3+ Design House Stockholm Work Lamp, a favourite of hers from our line of home accessories. Today, Christine is taking us on a tour of her living room, showing us how she’s making the Work Lamp work for her and her young family.

“When it came to styling my EQ3 Stockholm light, I quickly realized one small problem…the damn thing just looked good everywhere, which made choosing a single home for it very difficult. In the end, I decided to photograph the light all around my living room just to showcase what an incredibly versatile piece it is.

To begin, I placed the light on the credenza underneath my TV…resting comfortably on a stack of books and surrounded by candles and artwork, it’s the perfect finishing touch for this vignette. Next, I moved the Work Lamp to the tulip table that sits beside one of the room’s lounge chairs; placed here and mixed amongst other statement accessories, I think it makes for the best kind of task lighting…functional and fabulous. The fixture then travelled over to the other side of the room and found a spot on a small marble side table beside my antique settee…here the modern light serves as the perfect counter balance to the delicate furniture it’s placed beside. Next, I moved the light on the console table behind my sofa, again on a stack of books…here the light really takes centre stage as a beautifully decorative piece. And finally, to finish up its ‘tour de living room’, the Work Lamp went full circle to the other side of the space and was hung behind my Platner chair and suspended from a large hanging mirror…again, the industrial and almost masculine feel of the light was the perfect juxtaposition to the frillier pieces around it.

I’m entirely smitten with my new Stockholm light…its rugged form and luxurious gold finish make it a piece that gives equal weight to both form and function…and though I’m one who always looks foremost for pretty, the fact that this light looks good and acts good, makes it a delightful winner in my books.”  – Christine Dovey, Bijou and Boheme

Blogger’s Style: Tim from Design Maze

Aug 15, 2013

This month’s EQ3 Blogger of the Month is Toronto-based blogger Tim Lam of Design Maze. In addition to authoring his popular design blog, Tim has a busy career in the finance industry and runs his own decorating business. His work has been featured in Canadian publications like Style at Home and The National Post. Tim is known for his love of colourful spaces and graphic patterns, so when asked to choose a favourite EQ3 accessory, it’s no surprise that he selected iconic bedding from the EQ3+ Marimekko line.

Earlier this month, Tim told EQ3 Facebook readers why he was drawn to Marimekko’s Unikko duvet cover. And today, he’s showing us how he styled it in his own bedroom. You can find the latest duvet colours and styles here.

“Living in a condo right at the heart of downtown Toronto means I have limited access to my very own outdoor oasis. So I am always looking for ways to bring the outdoors into my interiors to reflect the beauty of our changing seasons. For this summer, I am delighted to have met the bright and cheerful Unikko Duvet Cover and Shams by Marimekko at EQ3.

The bedroom always has a special place in my heart, and I think you will agree with me. After all, it is the first room our eyes see when we wake up and the last space we enter for a good night sleep.

Poppies are one of my favourite summer flowers, and I love the graphic, modern interpretation of this delicate, yet proud symbolic bloom. The fabric is luxuriously soft and has a subtle sheen thanks to the 300-thread-count and 100% cotton percale. The bright canary yellow and soft dove grey palette of the Unikko duvet cover and shams works seamlessly in my off-white bedroom and with my wallpapered feature wall.

With hits of ocean blues and a hint of pale pink through decorative accessories and pillows, I am ready to jump into bed!”  – Tim Lam, Design Maze

Blogger’s Style: Christine from Just Bella

Jul 17, 2013

We kicked off a new project this month on our social media platforms – EQ3’s Blogger of the Month – as a way to connect with all of the fabulous design and style-minded folks out there in the blogosphere.

For the month of July, we chose Christine Shankowsky from the Just Bella blog. Christine is an Edmonton-based graphic designer with a flair for modern-elegant style and an eye for details. In a Facebook Exclusive, released earlier this month, Christine told readers what she liked about the Bliss Table Lamp, a favourite of hers from the EQ3 accessory line. You can read her quote here.

Today, she’s taking us inside her own home to show us how she styled the lamp in her master bedroom.

“I’m a sucker for accessories: fluffy pillows, pretty books, cozy blankets, and I think I can now add beautiful lamps to that list. The ‘Bliss Table Lamp’ won me over the moment I took it out of the box.

I’ll be honest, I had a hard time deciding where to put this lamp. It is so versatile I really thought it would look great in any of my rooms! In the end, it found a home on my night stand where I have been enjoying it every night since. I love the clean lines of this lamp, it’s bold yet subtle and makes such a great statement in the room. The height was perfect with my headboard and I loved how the translucent base tied in perfectly with the glass knobs on the dresser.

My night stand tends to be a place where things inevitably pile up – books, phone, glass(es) of water – the light and airy feel of the lamp helps things from feeling too busy when life gets a little cluttered. Plus, the switch is down on the cord so it’s easy to turn off after some late night reading! Bonus points in my book.”  – Christine Shankowsky, Just Bella
