John Pawson is a British designer who runs his own architecture practice out of London, England. Rarely without a camera, Pawson has captured hundreds of thousands of images – over a quarter of a million at the time this book was released – since acquiring his first digital camera.

A Visual Inventory catalogues 272 of Pawson’s image files. The images are featured in pairs, and each is personally annotated to describe the scene from his intimate point of view. Known for his minimalist designs, Pawson surprises readers with great variety in the subjects captured – minimalist architecture is showcased alongside ancient ruins, palatial architecture, construction sites, and exterior landscapes.

Together, these images “add up to a perspective, to an archive of a way of looking,” says Pawson. They create an opportunity to step away from your present surroundings, and see the world through Pawson’s eyes. It’s a world where no detail goes unnoticed, where fleeting moments are captured with the snap of a lens and allowed to live on and be remembered forever.

Music Library: Bringing the Heat

Oh (cold) snap! It’s been a harsh winter out here in Winnipeg, and a quick scroll down our Facebook and Twitter news feeds tells us we’re not alone. We need a break. A break from talk of ice storms and windchill factors and polar vortexes. A break from Tweets comparing Winnipeg temps to those of Mars.

Not all of us have the luxury of jetting off someplace warm, so we’re “Bringing the Heat” to you. Amy (that’s me!) has compiled 12 folky tunes that’ll instantly transport you to your favourite outdoor music festival.

Freebie: Printable January Planner

We’re busy planning another fun year of blogging on Inhabit and found ourselves wanting a nicely designed calendar to help organize our ideas. Digital calendars are great, but nothing beats having a printed copy that you can physically mark up and make notes on by hand. Alex, from our graphic design team, came to the rescue with this clean and striking design. We love it; and, we thought you might too. So we decided to make a blog series out of it!

This year’s theme is “Celebrating Canadian Diversity.”

Winning art will be reproduced on a variety of products and may include pillows, ottomans, greeting cards, tote bags and more. All proceeds from the sale of the product line will be donated to the The Michaëlle Jean Foundation (FMJF), supporting under-served youth who use the arts to revitalize their communities and create a better society. The Foundation is the governor general legacy project of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean and her husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond.

This year’s Gen Art Contest is open to Canadian residents of all ages and “we are excited to see how Canadian talent re-imagines diversity and ultimately see it transposed onto EQ3 furnishings and accessories,” says EQ3 President and CEO Peter Tielmann. Up to 10 winners will receive nationwide exposure and a trip for two to Toronto including hotel stay and spending money to attend a media event in conjunction with the Generation Art product launch. Winners living in the greater Toronto area will receive a $1000 EQ3 gift card in lieu of airfare for two.
