Have you heard the news? We’re bridging the gap between fashion and design with a nationwide expansion of EQ3 Marimekko shop-in-shops.

That’s right! We’re thrilled to announce our growing partnership with Marimekko, a Finnish textile and clothing design company internationally renowned for its original prints and vibrant colors. They also carry a fantastic line of classic designs for the home – including dinnerware, toss cushions and bedding – making them a perfect fit for the EQ3 brand. Our first EQ3 Marimekko shop-in-shop launched back in September 2012 at our flagship store in Liberty Village. Now, we’re excited to roll-out 7 new shop-in-shops starting this summer, with a total of 10 expected to open by the end of 2014. Watch for the new Marimekko shop-in-shops inside EQ3 retail locations in Winnipeg, Montreal, Brossard, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Emeryville, California.

Party Planning: Backyard Barbeque

Treat Dad this Father’s Day with a Backyard Barbeque fit for a grill-master.

Set the mood for a fun, laid-back evening with bright and playful decor. For starters, every backyard party needs comfortable seating. Lightweight furnishings in durable materials move easily from indoors to out. The Tip Ton Chair is made of polypropylene (plastic) and stacks up to four chairs high, so extra seating is ready to be put into action as the party grows. Place side tables casually about the yard, so guests can rest beverages and food on tables as they stop to converse with each other. Metal tables hold up well to spills and outdoor elements; and, adjustable tops can accommodate both standing and sitting guests. Next, play up the party’s theme with colourful table accessories. Don’t be afraid to to put “real” dinnerware to use. They’re stronger than plastic, paper or Styrofoam products; and, they can be re-used over and over, making them a better choice for the environment. Finally, an apron is a practical accessory – and an unexpected gift idea – for any grill-master. Just remember to choose one with a bold pattern to disguise grease stains!

How To: Decorate with Mid-Century Modern Furniture

We are so proud of the EQ3+ line and the opportunity it gives us to offer our customers furnishings, accessories and lighting from iconic brands that we’ve long admired and respected. It’s been particularly exciting to add Mid-Century Modern classics from Herman Miller to our line, which date back to the 1940’s and 50’s, yet continue to be sought after by designers and homeowners around the world.

We think timeless, classic designs like these have a place in every modern home, whether your decorating style is rustic, minimalist or somewhere in between. Below, we’ve compiled 3 tips on how to work them into your interior decor.

Tip No. 1 – Balance It

Balance the visual weight of a handsome piece, like the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, with chunkier upholstered seating. The Leo Sofa and Jenna Sofa both have wider proportions and sit close to the ground, making them a good fit for the heaviness of the lounge’s black leather upholstery and wood frame. Light fixtures in a dark metallic finish – such as black, bronze or grey – and occasional tables in a variety of wood tones will further enhance the masculine vibe.

Tip No. 2 – Soften Up

Soften the hard frame of the Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair with the warmth of a rustic-style table. The Teak Dining Table has a light finish and simple profile that reinforces the side chair’s “leggy” wood dowel base. An airy, “barely there” pendant light fixture will keep the focal point on the room’s furnishings and the outdoor view.

Tip No. 3 – Show Off

Show off the unique design of the Nelson Platform Bench with sleek, minimalist furnishings. The Simple Bed with Panel Headboard plays up the bench’s architectural design, while it’s dark onyx finish picks up on the bench’s dark-toned base. A black and white throw or toss cushion with a free-flowing pattern will add interest and breaks up the rectilinear lines of the furnishings.
